Andy Capper undertook his engineering training within the British Ministry of Defence, serving a mechanical biased four year apprenticeship. On successful completion Andy continued work for an agency of the MoD at an international centre of excellence for climatic testing.
He then transferred to the private sector, undertaking facility management at Barnet Hospital, London, at the commencement of the 33 year build and maintain contract of one of the first stream of PFI contracts within the country. He was a key member of the facilities management team, working with the builders to ensure the cessation of building services to redundant buildings and commissioning the services in the new build. In his role as Maintenance Manager, Andy was an appointed Authorised Person for Medical Gases and High Voltage Systems.
Andy was able to use the knowledge gained at Barnet when he moved to Medaes Ltd as a contract engineer, where he was responsible for the design and installation of medical gas pipeline systems, source plant, and monitoring systems for NHS and private clients throughout the southeast of England. His work included the completion and subsequent commissioning of University College London Hospital (721 bed) and adjacent Elizabeth Garrett Anderson maternity wing.
Andy has been with MGPS Services since April 2009. His first contract involved the commissioning of the Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth and he is currently working on the commissioning of Pembury Hospital new build (513 Bed). Andy also provides AP duties, technical support, and operational management tools including: schedules, installation plans and schematics, compliance surveys and design recommendations.
