Work on medical gas pipeline systems has to be undertaken by Competent Persons (MGPS) possessing training in and knowledge of such systems and an awareness of the importance of patient safety.
The training we offer for Competent Persons (MGPS) complies with the training requirements defined in HTM 02-01.
The document also identifies the differences in skills of Competent Persons (MGPS) carrying out MGPS maintenance from those whose activities are limited to installing systems.
We can offer a 4.5 day 'Comprehensive' course which is accredited to BTEC and a two day 'Refresher' Competent Persons (MGPS) course. Both courses impart the practical and theoretical skills that will enable participants to carry out the duties defined in HTM 02-01 and will suit employees of both healthcare establishments and commercial MGPS installation and maintenance organisations.
4.5 Day Course content:
- Introduction to gas safety and HTM02-01
- Plant and system theory
- Reading pipework drawings
- Basic fault-finding, including responding to routine plant-monitoring/alarm system indications
- The MGPS permit to work system
- Installation principles and practices
- MGPS testing (including practical work)
- Emergency procedures
- MGPS maintenance
- Maintenance of terminal units and AVSUs
Two Day Course content:
Essentially a revision of all the topics of the basis course and where further extended practical work can be arranged if required.
For those who do not require the BTEC qualification we offer a three day Competent Person Course. The contents and outcome at the same as for the five day course.
We also offer training for in house maintenance staff carrying out first line call out repairs to terminal units. The Terminal Unit Maintenance course is a one day training session specific to maintenance and repair of medical gas terminal units.
As health and safety is paramount to most organisations, we also offer Health and Safety for MGPS training specifically for those working with medical gas systems. This training includes preparation of risk assessments and safety method statements, fire safety etc, all legal requirements referenced in HTM 02-01.
